Striving for Social Impact and Sustainability

We are pleased that the HKUST Business School is the only business school in Hong Kong recognized for its social impact and sustainability achievements in the latest “Positive Impact Rating” (PIR), an initiative developed by business school experts in collaboration with global NGOs WWF, Oxfam, and UN Global Compact.

“Standing at the forefront of business education, we strongly believe in driving positive impact and contributing to the economic and social advancement in the region,” writes Professor TAM Kar Yan, Dean of HKUST Business School. He says, “we are committed to fostering business talent with the right mindset and knowledge to make a meaningful impact. The global pandemic underscores the importance of CSR, ESG, sustainability, and corporate ethics in our curriculum, research, and governance. It also opens a new avenue for our students to pursue positive missions and rethink how they can contribute to the broader community.”

The PIR rating reflects the positive social impact of the school as seen and evaluated by its students. The goal is to measure how business schools contribute to solving societal challenges by energizing the school and its culture. The 2021 edition of Positive Impact Ranking was launched at the United Nations PRME Global Forum and owing to the school’s continuous efforts in driving socio-economic advancement, the HKUST Business School was featured as one of the few business schools that advanced to level 4 (transforming schools) in the five-level rating.
